When we think of righteousness, we always think of being perfect and sinless in our words, thoughts, and actions. But that isn’t always possible. We’ve all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Even our righteous acts on our good days are no better than filthy rags in God’s sight. The book of Proverbs is filled with a list of blessings that await those who live righteous lives.
Our only claim to righteousness is through the blood of Jesus Christ. He is our only hope for redemption. When we believe that Jesus bore the punishment on our behalf, He takes away our sins and clothes us with His righteousness. This is the key to living the righteous life that the book of Proverbs talks about.
Our duty now is to live in righteousness through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives inside us. God teaches us and corrects us when we go astray. We only need to be willing to heed His voice. The blessings of the righteous are ours because of Jesus. Let’s strive to live in accordance with God’s will, so His sacrifice on our behalf is not in vain.
