“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
The 31st chapter of Deuteronomy starts with Moses telling the Israelites how he’s 120 years old now, and he will not be crossing the Jordan with them to enter the promised land. The Israelites had grown accustomed to Moses’ leadership and they had a sense of security with him at the helm. Now that he wasn’t going to be with them any longer, it was only natural that they experienced some anxiety in going forward.
Sometimes, we too reach crossroads in life, where we have to let go of someone or something that is familiar to us. Change is a part of life, and over the course of our lifetime, we will face numerous changes. Change in the institutions we study in, change of place, job changes, and even the people with live and work with. At those times when we have to let go of the familiar and embrace the unknown, what is our attitude?
It will do us good to heed the same advice Moses gave the Israelites. Be strong and courageous… do not be afraid, for the Lord your God goes with you. No matter who is staying back as you move forward rests assured that God is moving on with you. You just need to stay strong through the change, believing that the Stronger One is with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. That is His promise to you!
