“And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.”Exodus 23:25
What does it mean to serve? The dictionary defines it as performing a duty for another person, rendering assistance, being of use, or working for as a servant. While this definition might seem rigid with respect to our jobs, it’s truly a privilege in the kingdom of God. We don’t serve God because we have to… we serve because we want to.
God, in His immeasurable mercy and grace, rescued us from darkness and gave us a blessed hope and future. We’re indebted to Him with our lives. Therefore, we must look at ways we can work alongside God, serving Him and the people He loves. God has given each of us unique strengths and abilities that can be used to serve God in and through the local church.
God’s kingdom will continue to grow and flourish with or without our help. But when we step in and contribute, we will experience God’s blessing in our personal lives. Just as God blessed the Israelites in the promised land, He will bless your food and water, remove your sickness and grant you strength. The blessings experienced by those who serve God are many. Think about how you can use your time, talents and treasures in service to God.
