Daily Devotion - The Name Above All Names

Isaiah 9:6

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Centuries before our Lord Jesus Christ was born, the prophet Isaiah foretold His birth. He proclaimed that a child would be born and the government would rest upon His shoulder. He would establish His reign over all the earth. The future deliverer of Israel (and the nations) would bear a name that was above every other name that people had honored till then.

The Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled everything associated with today’s verse. He is wonderful, His Spirit is with us to guide and counsel. He is a mighty God, an everlasting Father. He is our Prince of Peace when we go through trials and afflictions. Everything we need, we can find in His Name.

When you’re going through a difficult time, which name do you turn to? Is it the most dialed number on your phone? Is it an app that numbs you and helps you dissociate from what’s happening in your life? Or do you turn to the Name of Jesus – the King of kings and Lord of Lords, who’s also Your loving Father and dearest Friend?

God is always present with you and ever ready to hear your every thought and word. Before you turn to someone else, acknowledge His presence in your life and reach out to Him for comfort, strength and guidance. He will never disappoint you.
