Psalm 37:39 “But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.” (KJV)
The gift of salvation has always been of interest to many who marvel at the idea of receiving it. On the other hand, there are people who fail to understand its application and wonder if we receive salvation by giving up sins and doing good.
The above verse may help in answering such questions and also throw some light on the divine gift of salvation. According to this verse, salvation is for anyone who believes in the Lord Jesus and accepts Him as their personal saviour. One cannot earn it by their own merit or by doing any good deed. It is given purely by the grace of God. It is a special favour given by God to those who receive Him into their lives.
So, the next question is – do we have to be righteous in order to receive salvation? The answer is simple. We can never become as righteousness as God to receive salvation. Au contraire, we are made righteous the moment we invite Jesus into our lives. Our righteousness is from the Lord and not our own.
Salvation is a gift and not a reward. It may be free for us, but God paid a huge price for it on the cross. God had to give up His precious Son so we could receive redemption. Such is the love of God for His people. Amongst all the gifts and blessings that we inherit as His children, salvation is definitely the most precious.
The gift of salvation is on a different level altogether. It promises deliverance coupled with the gift of eternal life. It is priceless, yet free for all who believe!
