Psalm 37:18-19: The Lord knows the days of the upright, and their inheritance shall be forever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied
In Psalms, we see promises for the upright.
Who are the upright? The upright, are believers who know and love the Lord and who seek to get closer in their relationship with Him.
The promises in this scripture include the Lord our God knows the entire lives of His upright people. No man/woman can be upright or righteous in every way because Sin is inherent in us and our flesh actively gets tempted easily and contradicts the care that we take to keep our souls and hearts pure.
Lord God looks for this in His people – the intent of the person. The heart. He knows the “every day” of each of His people. From before they were in the womb of their mother to the last day of their life on Earth. The meaning of ‘He knows’ also implies protection.
Lord God’s promise is an inheritance forever. ‘Forever’ indicates that the endless inheritance is something that the upright will inherit in Heaven and not as temporary awards on the Earth.
Lord God has promised contentment or satisfaction during any famine meaning provision. Finally, our Lord God has promised to ‘not put to shame’ meaning to maintain the dignity and respect of the upright during the last days, when the forces that are against our Lord God are active.
