Colossians 3:23 – “Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.“
In today’s busy days, where so many things are practically instant, we have an urgency to get things done quickly. And in the process, we don’t realize that we are just getting the job done, fast, and out of the way, then moving on to the next thing to do.
When Paul was writing to the Colossians, he was specifically speaking to slaves serving their masters, instructing them to perform their duty with obedience, integrity and sincerity of heart.
So, when we are busy performing many daily and sometimes repetitive tasks, are we doing them with excellence, with integrity, are we giving it our best shot? Or are we just doing them without much thought.
Though we are not slaves and are not performing anything to our masters, we are still warned to do everything, regardless of what it is, as to the Lord and not to men. Whether we are making our beds, cleaning our homes, cooking a meal, doing homework, doing a project for school, studying for a test, talking to our friends and family, we need to see the Lord in everything we do.
When we think this way, it raises up the bar a couple of levels. Let’s try to see Jesus in everything and everyone. Let’s do everything heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.
